Edwina is a delicate, top-down triangular lace shawl filled with traditional and Estonian stitch patterns that flow seamlessly from one to the next until ending in a geometric border that echoes the shapes created by the patterns of the shawl body. The striking main pattern of the shawl body is the Estonian Poollehekiri pattern, which translates to Half Leaf. I love how the interlocking chevrons formed by the yarn overs encompass the half leaf shape so gracefully. It is one of my favorite Estonian stitch patterns.

The size of the shawl is very easy to customize by working more or less repeats of the main Estonian Half Leaf body pattern. Lace weight yarn in solid or tonal hand-dyed yarn is recommended to showcase the intricacy and etheral quality of this design.

Edwina is dedicated to my mother-in-law Edwina O’Keefe (aka Mac), a great lady who was also a trail blazing, tough old broad in the best sense of the word. She rode Harleys and played baseball in the 1930s, enlisted in WWII as one of the first WACs, retired a Captain and led a colorful life until she left us in 2004 to continue wise-cracking, drinking extremely strong cocktails and playing the slot machines up in the big casino in the sky.

The Edwina pattern includes both charts and full written out instructions for those of you who prefer not to use charts.
