Shady Grove is a botanically inspired shawl featuring a delicate lace border filled with graceful leaves—my favorite type of lace pattern. Although the border appears to be knitted on, it is worked at the same time as the garter body, sideways in one piece. Thoughtful design details include a neat wrap-around garter selvedge along the wingspan edge, decorative slipped stitches framing the garter stitch body and a wavy edge treatment on the border.
Shady Grove will work well with a variety of yarn choices—tonal or slightly variegated hand-dyed yarns as well as solids or gradients. So if you are looking for the perfect pattern to use for that special skein of fingering yarn you’ve been saving for just the right project, Shady Grove will show it off beautifully!
The size is easily adjustable to your available yardage—from a shawlette to a larger shawl. Detailed instructions explain how to use a scale to weigh your yarn when using limited quantities to ensure that you don’t run out. Note that the yardage ranges and dimensions quoted refer to a shawlette worked at 7 repeats of Chart 2 (pictured in blue and peach) as well as a larger shawl worked at 10 repeats (pictured in magenta).
The Shady Grove pattern includes both charts and full written out instructions for those of you who prefer not to use charts.
