Glenhaven is a contemporary, worsted weight cowl that is worked in the round. It features a variation of the fabulously textured basketweave stitch that I also used for the border of my Glenmont shawl pattern. I loved that pretty basketweave stitch so much I didn’t want to say goodbye! Made up of simple knit and purl stitches, this eye-catching geometric design is an easy and relaxing knit.

The Glenhaven pattern teaches newer knitters important skills to take their knitting to the next level. You’ll learn how to work in the round on circular needles, using incredibly neat joining techniques. You’ll also learn to control your tension when transitioning between knit and purl stitches—which can be a challenge for even seasoned knitters—to ensure that your Glenhaven is filled with neat and even stitches. Many helpful video links are included to show all the techniques used to knit the cowl. Of course, Glenhaven can also be knitted by experienced knitters who are looking for a stress-free project that is perfect for a quick gift, stash busting or social knitting.

Glenhaven is offered in three sizes. The small size with a 22” (56 cm) circumference is perfect as a cozy neckwarmer that will fit nicely inside your jacket or coat collar. The medium 42” (107 cm) circumference size works well for those who prefer a cowl that warms both the neck and chest without being overly long. The large 49” (124 cm) circumference size can be worn as either a longer infinity scarf or wrapped twice around the neck for extra warmth when needed. Note that the depth measurement (from cast on to bind off) for all three pattern sizes is approximately 9.5” (24 cm). Instructions are included should you wish to further customize the size.

Solid, tonal or heathered worsted weight yarn that provides good stitch definition is recommended to show off the texture of the basketweave patterns to its best advantage.

The Glenhaven pattern includes includes one chart as well as written directions for that chart.
