Delphia is a top-down, crescent-shaped shawl worked in two colors of fingering weight yarn. Wide bands of garter alternate with thinner stripes, which flow into a beautiful lace border formed by dramatic double yarn overs. I was inspired by the delightful way that Victorian women’s fashion combined bold stripes with feminine design details such as lace and ruffles, and so I tried to capture that feel with Delphia.

I designed Delphia as both a first lace shawl pattern as well as for more experienced knitters who are looking for a TV or social knit. For newer knitters, you’ll learn several different types of increases, how to work stripes, when to cut vs. carry the yarn when working with two colors and how to work a neat edge when carrying the yarn. You’ll also learn how to work a garter tab and a picot bind off, and how to block a lace shawl to perfection. The pattern is filled with video links and helpful tips to ensure your success.

Note that on the sample shawl pictured, the garter body and garter stripes are worked with Color A (purple on the pictured sample); the lace border as well as the body stockinette contrast stripes and picot bind off is worked with Color B (peach on the pictured sample).

There are multiple ways to easily increase the size, full instructions are provided, including how to calculate stitch counts for any size.

All instructions are written only, with no charts.
