Lace Shawl Design: The Half Pi - Adventures in Lace by Dee O'Keefe. A comprehensive guide to designing your own lace shawls.

Lace Shawl Design: The Half Pi is a comprehensive 67-page guide that was written for the adventurous lace knitter who would like to learn how to design a beautiful half pi lace shawl. The process I’ll teach you is exactly how I go about designing my own shawls. To help you along the way, I’ve included multiple to-do lists; color-coded, fill-in-the-blank worksheets; appendices filled with charted examples; information about creating charts on a computer and from written instructions; and a list of recommended lace books and stitch dictionaries. Let's create together!

Debussy shawl knitting pattern

FEATURED PATTERN

Meet Debussy, a contemporary, deeply textured lace shawl which features an Art Nouveau-inspired lace panel flanked by a body composed of impressionistic bamboo stalks on a garter background. I named the shawl after Claude Debussy, one of my favorite composers and a contemporary of the Art Nouveau designers. Debussy is quoted as saying “Music is the silence between the notes.” I think this idea applies to lace knitting as well, since lace is formed by the negative space of the yarns overs in between the solid knitted fabric. Listen to Debussy's beautiful piano music.
